PH falls to Taipei

The Philippine national women’s team absorbed a 2-4 setback to Chinese Taipei in the 2020 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Asian Qualifiers Round 2 at the Grand Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

The Philippines led in the opening 30 minutes of the first half.

They were on course for an upset after Joyce Semacio pounced on a Chinese Taipei error in the 13th minute to put the Philippines up, 1-0.

Then, Patricia Tomanon scored the second goal in the 32nd minute off another defensive miscue from Chinese Taipei.

 The two first-half Philippine goals were the only ones Chinese Taipei conceded in the qualifiers.

Chinese Taipei fought back late in the first half with a penalty shot before scoring three unanswered goals in the second half.

The Philippines is in third place in Group C of the Olympic qualifiers with 3 points, ahead of Iran with a better goal differential.

The Philippines will face Palestine in their final match on Tuesday at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium.

The Philippine national women’s team repulsed Iran, 2-0, opening up its campaign on a bright note on Wednesday evening.
