There are six events in athletics that will take the place of six events in obstacle course in the coming 30th Southeast Asian Games.
This is after obstacle course was relegated to a demonstration event due to lack of entries in the biennial competition is set from November 30 to December 10 to be held in different venues in Clark, Manila and Subic.
Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee executive director Tom Carrasco gave this update yesterday following a top level management meeting at the PHISGOC offices at the SM Aura in Taguig.
Events like the men and women’s 5,000m, men and women’s 10,000m and men and women’s 20,000m walk have been added in athletics.
On the other hand, there also plans to have women water polo to replace women’s baseball, which only drew two entries.
Only three entries out of 11 member countries have been listed on obstacle course.
And this is one short of the required number for an event to be part in the regular calendar of events.
“They have requested to have it still included as a demo event, which could be possible,” said Carrasco.
Organizers said that underwater hockey and three events in chess are also among the demo events.
