Fabian joins 29th Winter Universiade

Filipina figure skater Misha Fabian is the Philippines’ lone representative in the 29th Winter Universiade.

The Philippines is sending its first ever Winter Universiade athlete in Fabian, a senior student of the Ateneo de Manila University to compete in Ladies’ Figure Skating. She will be accompanied by her Filipino coach Ronan Jay Capili.

Siberia hosts the youth version of the Olympics. The World Sport Games or simply the Universiade has been the second biggest international event in the world’s sports arena for more than 50 years. 

The Winter Universiade, its winter version, celebrates its 29th year this year in Krasnoyarsk, the geographical center of Siberia, Russian Federation on March 2 to 12.

The competitions are held every two years unlike the four-year Olympic events. Students from the age of 17 to 25 years and graduates who have received an academic degree or a diploma in the year preceding the competition are allowed to participate in competitions.

More than 3,000 sports delegates from over 50 countries are expected to vie for 76 sets of medals. The Games will be covered by close to 100 tv stations worldwide.
