Excitement is picking up on the choice of New Clark City as one of the venues of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Makati Representative Monsour del Rosario, who is the chef de mission of the Philippine team to the Games, said this after officials of member nations joined an ocular inspection of the different venues that will used during the biennial meet.

“Nakangiti ang mga mukha nila nung dinala namin sa Clark. Nagustuhan nila ang Clark. Sanay na kasi sila sa Manila,” said del Rosario, who is also the secretary general of the Philippine Taekwondo Association.

The chefs de mission of 11 member nations were in the country last week to see how preparations are being done on the venues, and for the one-year countdown to the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Bayanihan Park in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Organizers unveiled an improved logo design and the theme “We Win As One” during the start of the one-year countdown to the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

There were less rings and the circles were fatter when the logo sculpture was finally revealed and the digital clock was lit up at the Bayanihan Park here Friday night.

The rings now numbered around 11, and they represent the 11 members nations from Southeast Asia.

A mascot, with family as the inspiration, was also launched.

It was named “Pami,” which represents the eFilipino word “pamilya,” and is a smiling sponge ball-type figure,

Chefs de mission from the 11 member nations and national athletes from various sports disciplines joined Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Chairman Alan Peter Cayetano in turning on the switch of the countdown clock.

The guests of honor of the launch were Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, PSC Chairman William Ramirez, POC President Ricky Vargas and Athletes’ Commission representative Nikko Huelgas.

This is the first time that the SEA Games will have a countdown clock, as part of the government’s commitment to raise the standards of hosting the games to the level of the Asian Games.
