The establishment of the Philippine Sports Training Center is getting closer to reality.

The Senate bicameral conference committee recently approved a bill that will make this happen.

Senator Sonny Angara, the bill’s principal author and sponsor, said he is looking forward to this.

He stated that there will be “a reinvigorated culture of sports” pervading throughout the country once a state-of-the-art national sports training center is finally built.

“Darating ang panahon na hindi na lang tayo aasa sa sUwerte pagdating sa larangan ng palakasan. Sakaling maisabatas, makatutulong ang pagtatatag ng Philippine Sports Training Center sa pagpapalakas ng ating tsansa na magtagumpay sa pandaigdigang kumpetisyon,” said Angara.

The approved bill authorizes the construction of the PSTC to provide more support for Filipino athletes and boost the country’s performance in the Olympics and other international sports events.

Under the bill, P3.5 billion will be allocated for the project.

The budget should be completed in two years after the bill’s signing into law.

Angara said that training centers “reflect the state of sports in a given country, and particularly, the support being given.”

These facilities, coupled with top level coaching and access to international competition, are key drivers of an effective sports system as these directly affect athletes, he explained.”‹
