Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So may have lost his final game in the blitz competition, but he still took the overall crown of the Your Next Move tournament, which is part of the Grand Chess Tour 2018 in Leuven, Belgium.

His two rivals to the title, Sergey Karjakin and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, missed their shot at the title when they fell to final-round losses, as well.

So had a good chance to win in his Queen’s Gambit Declined Game with Hikaru Nakamura after he made a check with pawn at h5.

But after Nakamura promoted a passed pawn at the d-file, So gave up in 85 moves.

Misfortune first struck Vachier-Lagrave when Viswanathan Anand trapped the king at queenside with a rook push to d2 and won in 63 moves of Sicilian Closed.

On the other hand, Karjakin trapped the black king with his queen, rook and bishop to win in 72 moves of a Two Knights Defense.

This had Karjakin and Vachier-Lagrave settling for second and third places, respectively, with 21.5 points.

So finished with 14 points to top the rapid event. He was at eighth place in the blitz with eight points.
