Cudiamat seeks 2nd straight Prima Pasta badminton title

DEFENDING champion and national player Michael Kevin Cudiamat guns for back-to-back men’s open title when the 10th Prima Pasta Badminton Championship starts this week at the Powersmash Badminton Courts in Pasong Tama, Makati City.      

Cudiamat, known for his strong serves and great stamina, will be competing against the country’s best male badminton players all over the archipelago in the annual tournament organized by Prima Pasta Chairman Alex Lim.  

“For this upcoming Prima Pasta tourney, I’m determined to defend my men’s singles title, but I’m sure it won’t be easy,” said the former Far Eastern University player. “I trained very hard for this tournament so I’m confident of my chances.”

Other national players like Ross Leenard Pedrosa, Frell Keeyan Gabuelo and Solomon Padiz, among others, are going to give their best effort in this tournament, which began Feb. 23 until Sunday and then again on March 4 and 5.

In the women’s open singles’ division, reigning champion Sarah Joy Barredo also aims to defend her title against strong participants like fellow national players Airah Mae Nicole Albo, Jellene Geviane De Vera and Mariya Anghela Canlas Sevilla, among others.

The tournament, sponsored by Babolat and SMART Communications through the MVP Sports Foundation, will include the following events: Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles from Open class, to Levels A to G, while Open Class and Levels B to F will be available in the Women’s Doubles. 

The event is also supported by Boysen Paints, Morning Star Milling Corporation., Mabz Builders, ILO Construction, Monolith Construction, Monocrete Construction, Pioneer Insurance, Promax International, Regent Foods Corp., RFM Corp and Del Monte Phils.

More than 2,000 participants from different cities and provinces will be playing in the tournament organized by committee chairman Alexander Lim in partnership with the Philippine Badminton Association and affiliated with the Philippine National Ranking System.

Trophies, medals and gift certificates will be given to all winners of the tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association.
