Malacanang, AFP eye flying starts in UNTV Cup

Six more teams debut on Sunday with last season’s runner-up Malacanang-Philippine Sports Commission and two-time champion Armed Forces of the Philippines going for flying starts in the 7th UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports in Pasig City.

Leading the Judiciary Magis in Sunday’s game against the NHA Builders is Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez.

The Malacanang-PSC Kamao collide with the Ombudsman Graftbusters at 3:30 p.m. with both teams hoping to join early Group B winner Department of Agriculture, while the AFP Cavaliers take on the Department of Justice Boosters at 3:30 p.m. in the lone Group A match.

The other Group B match is set at 5 p.m. with the Judiciary Magis going up against the National Housing Authority Builders in the event designed by UNTV president and CEO Dr. Daniel Razon for the country’s public servants.

The winner in the AFP-DOJ showdown will draw level with defending champion Senate, which outlasted newcomer Philippine International Trading Corporation, 73-70

Out to lead the Cavaliers are former amateur standouts Boyet Bautista and Eugene Tan, while the Justice Boosters will be bannered by Reynold Munsayac and Jan Arnie Polican.

Special Assistant to the President Bong Go will spearhead the Kamao’s campaign, along with John Paul Yamamoto, Ian Garrido and Visnu Das Javier.

Leading the Magis are Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, Don Camaso and Warren Ybanez while the Builders will be spearheaded by Alvin Vitug, Antonio Lustestica, and Marvin Mercado.

The annual tournament is again offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team with the runner-up’s charity getting P2 million. The charities of the third and fourth placers shall likewise receive substantial prizes from UNTV.
