The best players in the country’s oldest collegiate league will get to showcase their skills and bond with fans at the NCAA 94 All-Star Game this Friday which will air live from the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City on ABS-CBN S+A and S+A HD on cable.
The league will split up into two teams for the All-Star Game with Arellano University (AU), Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), Jose Rizal University (JRU), Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), and Mapua University (MU) comprising Team Heroes with Coach Topex Robinson of LPU.
Meanwhile, Team Saints, headed by San Beda University (SBU) Coach Boyet Fernandez, will feature SBU, NCAA Season 94 host University of Perpetual Help System – DALTA (UPHSD), Colegio De San Juan de Letran (CSJL), San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R), and College of Saint Benilde (CSB).
Livestreaming is also available on sports.abs-cbn.com and the ABS-CBN Sports Youtube starting at 1:30 p.m.
The festivities will begin with side events featuring the Skills Challenge, Shooting Stars, Three-Point Shootout, and Slam Dunk Contest. Lacing up for the Skills Challenge are Jasper Cuevas of hosts UPHSD, Clint Doliguez of SBU, Bonbon Battiler of Letran, rookie Jimboy Pasturan of CSB, Mark Mallari of JRU, Charles Cadua of EAC, Arjan Dela Cruz of SSC-R, Carl Lumbao of Lyceum, Maui Sera Joseph of AU, and Eric Jabel of Mapua.
Meanwhile, the Shooting Stars challenge will see each school suiting up a current seniors men’s basketball player with their top juniors player and a former player of the school who they consider as a legend. The goal is to outscore their opponents by scoring baskets off different areas of the court that have corresponding points to them.
The Three-Point Shootout, on the other hand, boasts of the league’s fearless gunslingers as they try to sink the most buckets from long range. Lining up on the firing range is 2016 Three-Point Shootout king AC Soberano (SBU), Allyn Bulanadi (SSC-R), Nicolo Galvelo (CSJL), Carlo Young (CSB), MJ Dela Virgen (JRU), Jerome Garcia (EAC), Luke Sese (UPHSD), Ralph Tansingco (LPU), Rence Alcoriza (AU), and Exequiel Biteng (MU).
Taking flight in the much-awaited Slam Dunk Contest, which will be hosted by Kapamilya stars Elisse Joson and Jameson Blake, will be Kenneth Villapando (SSC-R), Toba Eugene (SBU), Renato Ular (CSJL), Justin Gutang (CSB), Marvin Gamboa (MU), Lean Martel (UPHSD), Enoch Valdez (LPU), Jesse Bautista, Jr. (EAC), and William De Leon (AU).
Last year, Team Saints outlasted Team Heroes in a wire-to-wire 84-80 victory, thanks to All-Star Game MVP Prince Eze from UPHSD. For the side events, JP Nieles and Almel Orquina of MU won the Skills Challenge and Three-Point Shootout respectively, while UPHSD took the Shooting Stars title home. Former AU big Lervin Flores won the Slam Dunk contest jumping over comedian Empoy.
