A WIN away from the finals, Barangay Ginebra looks to capitalize on its first opportunity to book a seat in the finals as it looks close out Rain or Shine in their best-of-five semifinals series in the 2018 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup.

The Gin Kings, ahead 2-1, can clinch a finals’ berth when they once again take on the top-seeded Elasto Painters in Game 4 today at 7 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

However, Ginebra coach Tim Cone admits the road will not be easy, especially with how the Gin Kings bled just to get the advantage they have now.

Barangay Ginebra’s Justin Brownlee, shown here driving to the lane against Rain or Shine’s Maverick Ahanmisi, will again be the focal point of the Gin Kings’ offense as they shoot for the first berth in the finals of the 2018 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup today.

“Rain or Shine earned that top seed and closing out will not be easy against these guys,” said Cone. “Overall, we’re happy we have a 2-1 lead and we need to be better to get ourselves to the finals soonest.”

Cone and his Gin Kings took the series lead after a surviving a difficult grind to earn a 75-72 victory over the Elasto Painters in Game 3 Saturday night.

Justin Brownlee was sensational, scoring a season-high 44 points to put Ginebra on the brink of the finals.

Ginebra led by as many as 25 points in the first half of Game 3 but found out that Rain or Shine wasn’t easy to put away.

The Elasto Painters showed a lot of resiliency, coming back strong in the second half and even had a chance to send the game into overtime before failing to do so.

That’s why Cone has his concerns regarding his team as it looks to avoid danger and finish off the series.

“It was all on us. We showed our flaws and weaknesses as we almost lost this last game. We had a lot of mental mistakes and we need to do something about all of that.”

Rain or Shine is hoping it can tie the series once again and force a deciding Game 5 on Wednesday.
