CKS Blue Dragons reach Final Four

JOHN Galinato showed the way as the Chiang Kai Shek Blue Dragons advanced to the Final Four of the 2018 SM-NBTC National Finals.

Galinato fired 22 points as the Blue Dragons came with a through 86-67 demolition of Malayan High School Red Robins in the Elite Eight at the MOA Arena.

Galinato’s teammates, Ferdinand Asuncion and Frederic Antiporda, added 19 and 18 respectively. 

The Blue Dragons’ physical game bothered MHSS all game long, and the Red Robins were whistled for four unsportsmanlike fouls.

The Red Robins’ bad foul situation saw CKSC attempt 38 free throws converting 27.

On the other hand, the Red Robins were not as productive from the free throw line and sank eight of 12 tries.

CKSC’s big man, Carl Luciano hounded rookie Fil-Australian big man Brieden Smith and Grant Dennison.

Luciano grabbed 11 rebounds to help in the overall effort for the Goldwin Monteverde-coached Blue Dragons.

Eric Jabel led Mapua with 14 points while Dan Arches and Clint Escamis added 13 and 12 respectively. 

It was the last match for head coach Randy Alcantara, who will soon handle the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs.

In the second division encounters, St. Benilde of Calamba outplayed Assumption Montessori of Cagayan de Oro, 76-62, with Shawn Alegre making 20 points.

St. Louis School-Dumaguete, led by Ian Lazarte with 32 points, prevailed over Jesus the Loving Shepherd-Naga, 83-78.

Stephen Javier hit 21 points as La Salle-Lipa won over Tay Tung of Bacolod, 69-63, and Balanga of Bataan got 19 points from Julius Garcia in their 78-73 win over Assumption College-Davao.
