FOUR more wins.

That’s how close the San Miguel Beermen are to potentially winning a record fourth straight Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup crown.

Following a masterful performance in the semifinals where they manhandled Barangay Ginebra, 4-1, in their best-of-seven affair, the defending champions are back in familiar territory.

Only one more series win separates the Beermen from basketball immortality.

For now, San Miguel coach Leo Austria wants his wards to cherish the moment temporarily and rest up to prepare for the big stage ahead.

“We tried our best to finish the series for the players to have some rest first before the finals. We’re expecting a tough finals,” said Austria. “Enjoy muna ng konti sa pag pasok sa finals then prepare na agad kasi mahirap kahit sino makalaban.”

The Beermen will have the luxury of having ample time to rest and recuperate as they brace themselves for the final run.

They still await the victor in the other semis tussle between the Magnolia Hotshots and the NLEX Road Warriors.

The Hotshots and the Road Warriors are still locked in a tight and competitive series which is currently tied at the moment, 2-2.

As of this writing, Game 5 is currently in play with both teams aiming for a pivotal 3-2 edge as the series approaches its homestretch.

Four-time reigning Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo emphasized the importance of San Miguel wrapping up its semis series with Ginebra sooner rather than later.

“Mahalaga para sa amin na matapos na agad ‘yung series (against Ginebra) kasi pagod na din kami,” said the Cebuano powerhouse, who lorded over the Gin Kings’ frontcourt to help his team power its way to the finale. “Pahinga muna kami saglit para ready na sa finals.”
