LAST year, these two teams had the misfortune of missing out on a semifinals stint. This year, one of them will return to the semis.

The Adamson Baby Falcons and the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs fight it out in a fourth seed playoff encounter at 10 a.m. today the Blue Eagle gym in Quezon.

The winner of the showdown will earn the fourth seeding and put them into the stepladder semis of the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines Junior Basketball Tournament.

After getting past the La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers, 75-51,  last Sunday in their last second-round assignment, the Baby Falcons, who missed the semis after forfeiting 11 games last season, ended up with the same 7-7 win-loss record with the Tiger Cubs.

The Tiger Cubs, who are seeking a return to the semis after a five-year absence and a botched attempt last year, stayed in contention after they won over the Baby Tams, 64-62.

Baby Falcons coach Mike Fermin said the players are out to make a statement in the playoff, and they already did, with Adam Doria great performance  in their game with the Junior Archers.

“They responded (to our challenge). And (Adam) Doria had a breakout game. Ngayon, basta kami, preparado lang,” said Fermin.
