Olivarez clobbers AIMS in NCRAA

CALASIAO, PANGASINAN—Olivarez College continued to sizzle in the Sta. Lucia Land-NCRAA men’s basketball tournament even as New Era stunned host team University of Luzon here at the Calasiao Sports Complex.

The Sea Lions were overpowering from start to finish on their way to a 105-57 demolition of Asian Institute of Maritime Studies in what was easily the most lopsided victory this season.

Behind the efforts of Jeric Prado, Raymond Andico and Louie Campos, the Sea Lions posted a 42-23 half time lead and padded it to as high as 52, 100-48, in the fourth period as the Mariners couldn’t get their game going.

Campos led all Olivarez scorers with 17 points and nine rebounds despite seeing action for only 15 minutes.

Prado added 16 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes as they moved into solo leadership of Group A, half a game ahead of idle Technological Institute of the Philippines (3-0).

But Olivarez’s win was nearly overshadowed by New Era’s thrilling 77-73 win over host squad University of Luzon.

Jeff Comia made the big plays down the stretch, scoring two free throws and capping his heroics with a steal and a lay up to put his team ahead, 74-70, with still more than a minute left.

The usually passionate Comia was called for a technical foul in the ensuing play, but made up for the lapse with a dagger basket coupled by Nemesis dela Cruz’s split charities to ensure New Era’s win.

Also winning was Philippine Merchant Marine School, which pulled off a 98-93 victory over PATTS College of Aeronautics.
