THE Ateneo Blue Eagles needed time to settle down with their game with the University of the East Warriors.

And when they did, the Blue Eagles went on to clobber the Warriors, 83-65, yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Thirdy Ravena tallied a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds in powering the Eagles to their fourth straight win in the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.

The Warriors, with Alvin Pasaol top-scoring for 22 points, dropped to their fourth straight setback.

The Blue Eagles are now in the lead, ahead of the defending champion La Salle Green Archers, who took an 87-98 loss to the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons a day earlier.

La Salle now shares second with UP.

The Warriors came back from a nine-point deficit, 23-32, at halftime, with Clark Derige and Mark Maloles leading a rally that put them within 31-35.

Then, charities from Anton Asistio and Matt Nieto in the last 5:52 gave the Blue Eagles more room, 42-33.

In the fourth, triples from Ravena and Michael Nieto allowed the Blue Eagles to grab a 75-61 lead, with 3:46 to go.

“We had the lead. But we couldn’t really say we were in control. We were keeping the game within distance,” said Blue Eagles’ coach Sandy Arespacochaga.

Matt Nieto shot 11 points for the Blue Eagles, while Aaron Black and Michael Nieto made 10 apiece.

Papi Sarr struck with 19 points and 13 rebounds in powering the Adamson Falcons to an 83-76 beating of the National University Bulldogs.

The Falcons drew 13 points from Jerrick Ahanmisi and Jonathan Espeleta as Adamson caught up with NU at third spot, with both teams now toting 2-2 slates.
