ONCE again, the Meralco Bolts aim at regaining a share of the tournament lead and further improving its standing in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.

Consistent in its campaign, the Bolts (7 wins, 2 losses) are looking for their third straight win as they go toe-to-toe with the GlobalPort Batang Pier (3-7) at 7 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City tonight.

In the opener, the Star Hotshots (5-4) hope to keep its chances of landing in the top four alive as it will be heavily favored when it faces the still winless Kia Picanto (0-10) at 4:15 p.m.

The top four teams at the end of the eliminations will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage against lower seeded teams.

The Bolts are looking good to end up in the top four but still need to finish strong in their last two assignments.

They are currently enjoying solo second place and can tie defending champion and league-leading Barangay Ginebra (8-2) at the top with a win.

The Bolts have won their last two games. Their most recent victory was against Star which they beat, 96-90, almost two weeks ago in a battle in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The eliminated Batang Pier will play its last game of the tournament looking for a positive ending.

Currently, the Hotshots are sitting in seventh place but they still have a chance to move up into the top four should they win their last two outings and the results of the remaining games of the other top teams favor them.

The Hotshots are actually on a slump, losing four of their last five games after starting their campaign on fire with a 4-0 start.

Star will take on a Picanto side which is looking to avoid a winless campaign after losing all of its 10 games thus far.

This is Kia’s final chance to post a win this conference before heading to an early vacation.
