ALREADY crossing over as a local celebrity, Mark Andaya had decided to put on his sneakers anew to play in a charity game.

The former pro player joined D-League standout and ex-La Salle cager Peejay Barua in a one day 3 x 3 tournament – the LGR Hoops Play For A Cause – held recently at the Makati Coliseum.

The event, which was organized to help Mike Custodio, one of the participants of LGR Hoops Season 4. Custodio fell hard and suffered a severe waist injury. Participants from more than 90 teams which joined Season 4 decided to put up their 3 x 3 teams in hope of raising funds and help the ailing player from his expenses.

LGR Hoops is the fastest growing league for people from all walks of life – from players in the corporate divisions, people looking for recreation and players who want to elevate their game to the next level.

For Andaya and Barua, being part of an event for a cause is something they’re willing to do.

“Mahal namin ang basketball. Competitive kaming mga players pero ayaw naming may nakikitang nasasaktang players kakampi man or kalaban,” said the 6-foot-9 Andaya.

Now working as a full-time employee in Maynilad, Barua went back to playing hoops nine years after he graduated from La Salle. He inked a deal to play for AMA Online recently and he’s planning to use this event as a way to keep himself in shape  aside from helping out.

Barua played for DBT, but his team lost in the finals to Wednesday Group, 22-21.

“It’s a great feeling being able to help out,” said Barua. “I’m also trying to keep myself in shape so whenever my team needs me, I’ll be there to contribute.”
