Eze will have big shoes to fill for Altas

THE Perpetual Help Altas will bank on 6’11” Prince Eze now that Bright Akhuetie is gone.

With Eze around, the Altas still have a chance to duplicate last year’s finish in the 93rd National Collegiate Athetlic Association men’s basketball tournament.

Eze is expected to make his presence felt for Perpetual Help when it parades a veteran roster as action unfolds on July 8 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Akhuetie has transferred to the University of the Philippines at the end of Season 92 as a misunderstanding with the coaching compelled him to pack up and leave.

The Altas will make an effort to try and match their Final Four finish last year.

They were one game away from advancing to the finals when they lost to the San Beda Lions, the eventual champions.

Perpetual Help coach Nosa Omorogbe said Eze will need a lot of help from his teammates in order for the team to duplicate last year’s finish.

“We will need contribution not just from Eze, but all the players,” said Omorogbe, who is also a Nigerian.

The Altas  has  kept the core of its old team intact as they still have AJ Coronel, Gab Dagangon, JG Ylagan, Kieth Pido, Flash Gordon Sadiwa and Jack Hao, among others.

While it has a seasoned roster, Perpetual Help had a hard time adjusting to Akhuetie’s absence in the pre-season.

They won only three of their eight games and failed to make it to the quarterfinals.
