THE sport of 3×3 basketball will be added to the calendar of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
NCAA Management Committee chair Fr. Glyn Ortega, OAR, of season 93 host San Sebastian College said they plan to have this in the second half of the school year.
“It will be in the second semester calendar,” said Ortega.
The inclusion of the event comes three weeks after the International Olympic Committee Executive Board on Friday announced 3×3 basketball will be in its own calendar.
They have plans to include 64 athletes for 3×3 as part of the Olympic Basketball program starting with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
With the decision, 3×3 becomes the first-ever new Youth Olympic Games discipline to be included in the Olympic program.
The leagues gets ready for the start of the Games this July with plans to bring the games straight to the students.
The NCAA holds its first school games with a juniors and a seniors game between Season 93 host San Sebastian and Arellano U on July 13 at the Arellano U Gym in Legarda, Manila.
Ortega, OAR said this will be part of the “NCAA on Tour” that will be held every Thursday.
The next games will be Mapua Gym on July 20, then at San Sebastian-Cavite on July 27, Letran Gym on Aug. 3, Emilio Aguinaldo Gym on Aug. 10 and Perpetual Help Gym on Aug. 17.
