Dragons rip Knights to reach cage finals

THE Diliman College Blue Dragons prevailed over the Letran Knights, 91-85, in the semifinals last Monday in the ongoing 23rd Fr.  Martin Cup Summer Basketball tournament.

Adama Diakhite fired 28 points, while Rickson Gerrero added 27 for the Rensy Bajar-coached Blue Dragons at the St. Placid gymnasium of the San Beda Manila campus in Mendiola.

This is the first time that the Blue Dragons made it to the championship round, where they will meet either the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals or the Centro Escolar University Scorpions.

The Generals and the Scorpions are disputing the other finals berth as of presstime.

Gerrero scored two of the Blue Dragons’ last seven charities in the remaining 21 seconds to bail his squad out of trouble.

The San Sebastian Staglets put up a double-teaming play against a cager from the San Beda Red Cubs in a junior division semifinals game.

In the women’s division, National University won over University of Santo Tomas, 60-56, to arrange a finals showdown with the La Salle Lady Archers.

Ria Nabalan shot 12 points for the NU Lady Bulldogs.

Camille Claro delivered 20 points for the Lady Archers in their 64-61 win over Enderun College.

In junior action, the Letran Squires put away Chiang Kai Shek College, 84-79, to figure in the finals with the San Sebastian Staglets.

The Staglets, led by Damie Cuntapay and Raymund Umayao with 21 points, eased out the San Beda-Rizal Red Cubs, 95-85.
