Morales, Pascual share golf honors

THEODY Pascual carded a 73 to capture the overall low gross crown while Noel Morales took the overall low net honors with a 50 in the 2016 Manila Southwoods Chairman’s Charity Cup at the Legends and Masters courses in Carmona, Cavite recently.

Kenneth Ti shot a 44 to edge Ruel Cabral and Rafael Juan, who turned in a pair of 39s and snare the Men’s I crown, while Edmund Yee topped the Men’s II division with a 46, nipping Allan Yap and Pepito Bengzon, who made 45 and 40, respectively, in the 18-hole tournament spread over two days and backed by Platinum sponsors Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp./Diamond Motors Corp., Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, Mit Air Sales Center, Alpha Quality, Agrexplore Corp., The Neat, Inc. and Yukio Suzuki (Southwoods Club Fitter).

Rey Luna also shot a 44 and bested Klaus Rasmussen and Jun Del Corro, who both had 39s, for the Men’s III diadem while Almario Alix clinched the Men’s IV title with a 43, beating Jose Flamiano (42) and Bernie Basilan (41) in the event supported by Silver sponsors Philippine Airlines, The Turf Company and Tony and Jacky Salon and hole-in-one sponsor Colgate Palmolive.

Sharing the spotlight are Changwan Bae, who drove home a brand new Mitsubish Mirage G4 GLS Sedan AT courtesy of Mitsubishi Motors and Diamond Motors as the grand raffle prize winner, Vic Conanan also won a round-trip airfare for two to Hong Kong courtesy of Philippine Airlines, while Poch Hernandez aced the Masters’ No. 13 and won the Greek Isle Cruise courtesy of RCI and Baron Travel during the club’s Halloween tournament last Oct. 30.

Other winners were Jimmy Borromeo, Johnny Violeta, Suk Eun Hee, Connie Mamaril and rising star Yuto Katsuragawa, who topped their respective divisions in the tournament which drew 387 players, including 209 in the second day.

Borromeo scored a 43 to nip Erwyn Lumanog and Bob Labrador, who also scored 43s, in the countback for the Seniors I crown; Violeta copped the Seniors II plum with a 44, nipping Frankie Flameno, who also shot a 44, in the countback, with Enrique Punsalang placing third with a 43; Hee made a 45 and repulsed Yong Mi Kim (44) and Florence Okiyama (43) for the Ladies I crown; Mamaril dominated the Ladies II with a 47, beating Celia Samson (42) and Gloria Domingo (38); while Katsuragawa, who steered Southwoods to the Fil-Am golf crown recently, topped the Guest division with a 71, edging Harry Paltongan, who also scored a 71, in the countback with most birdies. George Blaylock also carded a 71 but settled for third.
