THE AFP Cavaliers and Bureau of Customs Transformers aim to keep their clean slate Sunday in the elimination round of the UNTV Cup Season 5 at Pasig City Sports Center.

UNTV Cup is giving away more than P12 million in total prizes to the chosen charities of all 13 participating government teams.

AFP, which holds a 2-0 record, will battle it out with another unbeaten squad, the BFP Firefighters (1-0) at 2 p.m.

Former pro Marlou Aquino of the Bureau of Customs, shown here scoring on a slam-dunk, will be a marked man when BOC tackles fellow unbeaten team AFP in the UNTV Cup Season 5.

In the second game at 3:30 p.m,, Malacañang Kamao tries to register their second win in as many games as they face the winless Senate Defenders (0-2).

The Cavaliers are coming off a 90-80 win against the MMDA Blackwolves last Sept. 28, wherein nine of the 10 players that AFP played on that game was able to score.

The Firefighters’ first win was against MMDA which they stopped last Sept. 18, 83-73.

Rookie veteran Gilbert Malabanan spearheaded the firemen with 16 markers, seven of 10 field goals, three assists and a block.

Kamao’s first win was way back last Sept. 11 when they defeated Ombudsman Graftbusters, 82-70. New reinforcement Eric dela Cuesta was the best player of that game finishing with 22 points, six of 12 triples and had four steals.

BFP and Malacañang will be the last two squads to play just their second assignment.

Senate meanwhile is coming from a painful loss, 75-67 setback against Ombudsman last September 25. This was the first won game of the Graftbusters in two seasons so far at UNTV Cup.

In the last game set at 5pm, BOC Transformers (2-0) and HOR Solons (2-0) will separate ways as they slug it out with each other to complete the triple header Sunday which will be aired live at UNTV News and Rescue starting at 2 pm.

Transformers are coming off from an inspired 79-68 win against powerhouse Judiciary Magis last September 25. The victory put the Customs squad as the team to beat this season. The Marlou Aquino and Kenneth Duremdes led squad was able to defeat the two time champion Magis even without one of its reliable scorer Berzon Franco who served a one game suspension. Franco will be back in the game against Solons.

In the two wins of BOC, Aquino was both the best player of the game. Against Judiciary and last season’s best center Don Camaso, the former Ginebra big man registered 26 points from 10 of 14 field goals and six of nine from the stripes.

This is the same case for HOR which last won against GSIS Furies, 97-83 two weeks ago. Kiko Adriano was also best player in as many games tallying 29 points, five boards, three assists and three steals. He was supported by backcourt partnet Egay Billones who had 31 markers, three assists and five steals.

This is the first time in five seasons that HOR started their campaign with a 2-0 mark and led the team standings as well.

Hard Court actions are getting more exciting and games are becoming more unpredictable because of the balanced competition of UNTV Cup Season 5, ang Liga ng Public Servants!
