Cineastes can feast on a curated line-up of award-wining movies from across the world in full high definition as the first CinemaWorld Film Festival unfolds on SKY on all Sundays of October.
The selection has racked up awards from various prestigious local film awards, international film festivals, including the Venice, Locarno and Sundance Film Festivals.

Mammal was aired on Sunday.
The sophomore feature of director Rebecca Daly about the dangerous relationship between a grieving divorcee and a troubled young man that develops with every trouble and violence they overcome.
The movie was inspired, in part, by the disappearance of a teenage girl in Sussex, a town in England. It won the Panavision Spirit Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. It also received multiple nominations at the Sundance Film Festival, The Irish Film and Television Awards, and the Dublin Film Critics Circle Awards, also nominated for performances. Rachel Griffiths won a nod for Best International Actress at the Irish Film and Television Awards. While, Barry Keoghan, who plays the troubled teen, was recognized in the Best Actor category from the same award giving body.
Road To Your Heart (Oct. 8)
Jaco Smit’s movie was the highest grossing Afrikaans Narrative Feature Film of 2014. It tells of the love story between a young businessman on his way to his father’s funeral and a bohemian girl he meets along the way. Their trip takes a dark turn when a mysterious person shows up to stir trouble.
The movie, also called Pad na jou Hart, earned more than R11 million in gross revenue in South Africa. It dominated in the Huisgenoot Tempo Awards, the awarding ceremony of South Africa’s biggest magazine. It won Afrikaans Movie of the Year, while its stars, Ivan Botha and Donnalee Roberts won Best Actor and Best Actress respectively.
Our Loved Ones (Oct.15)
A family secret is at the center of Anne Emond’s second feature film. Years after his father’s suicide, David Leblanc (Maxim Gaudette) discovers the truth about his father. He is then forced to confront the sadness of his past.
Also called Les etres chers, the movie was well received in 20 different international film festivals, including Locarno Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. Emond received the Stella Artois Jay Scott Prize in 2015 from the Toronto Film Critics Association. It is an award given to promising artists.
Maledimiele (Oct. 22)
Benedetta Gargari is Sara, a beautiful 15-year old girl with a seemingly perfect life. However, pressures and anxieties lead her to develop an eating disorder, and a misadventure at a school trip threatens to expose her secrets
“Maledimiele” is coined after the first phase of an eating disorder, when it first feels good. It is this struggle with the self that is at the center of this Marco Pozzi feature. The movie premiered at the 67th Venice Film Festival. It received the Special Prize at the Fiuggi Family Festival, a festival sponsored by the Fiuggi Family Festival Association and the Italian Ministry of Culture. Gargari, who gave a spectacular performance, was named Best Actress at the Annecy Italian Film Festival in 2011.
Into Paradiso (Oct. 29)
This tragi-comedy stars Gianfelice Imparato and Saman Anthony as two men from different worlds who develop a strong friendship after overcoming dangerous situations. Imparato is Alfonso, a down on his luck scientist involved with the mob, while Anthony is a washed up Sri Lankan cricket star.
This was Paola Randi’s directorial debut. Despite being her first film, Randi was not afraid to be unconventional and make use of various media in the movie, such as stop motion animation and surreal video drama. The movie won Best Film at the Bimbi Belli Festival and received multiple nominations at the David di Donatello Awards and at the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists.
