The National Youth Commission (NYC) is opening its doors to aspiring young filmmakers with the launch of Sine Kabataan Short Film Competition.

The competition encourages the youth to develop their creativity and originality in storytelling, touching on important issues of today in line with the celebration of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP), which runs nationwide from Aug. 16 to 22.

Through this competition, NYC hopes to receive films that are not just made by the youth but more importantly, are reflective of how they perceive the issues that they face today. Their unique perspective on these important societal issues will hopefully bring more insights for the Agency and for the rest of the audience to have a better grasp and understanding of these matters and how to address them.

Sine Kabataan is open to all filmmakers of ages 18 to 24 years old. Prizes in cash and in kind await the winners. Short films that will make it as finalists will be featured along with full-length features that will be part of PPP.

NYC Chairperson Aiza Seguerra

“We believe that film making is one potent medium that the youth can utilize as an opportunity to express their sentiments about issues confronting their generation more creatively,” NYC Chairperson Aiza Seguerra said.

Through the Sine Kabataan project, the youth, being one of the most vulnerable sectors should also be given the chance to express themselves by utilizing short films. Issues like mental health, bullying, youth in peace building, domestic violence, teenage pregnancy, and HIV/AIDS, among others.
