This year marks Ronnie Liang 12th year in show business and he is excited to celebrate more than two decades making his fans and admirers happy as a singer and recently as an actor.
We met Ronnie for early dinner lately. He was a picture of calm and bliss as he talked about his upcoming celebration, an anniversary concert in October. “Probably it will be at the Kia Theatre,” he told us.
Also, Ronnie revealed that he has a new album with Viva Records. “I acted as the executive producer of the album,” he said smiling, perhaps because he thought we might not believe him. “Actually, the album had other executive producers,” he explained.
Ronnie is a product of the reality show Pinoy Dream Academy (Yeng Constantino was the winner) in 2006.
Ronnie is still incredulous how since joining the reality show, life has changed for him and his family. “When I joined that search I saw an opening for something that I thought could make a significant change in my life. My only dream then was to be a singer, a professional singer so I could earn something for myself and help my family.”
A dozen years had passed and Ronnie remains on the verge of tears whenever he recalls his audition to join Pinoy Dream Academy. “I sang Josh Groban’s ‘You Raise Me Up’ for the auditioners,” he remembers. “And then in the middle of the song my eyes started to well tears. I became emotional while I thought about the other auditions I went to.” The singer took notes of the number of auditions he went to.
The Pinoy Dream Academy audition was the 300th he went to. And it was the last he would go to, because from then on he became (especially after the reality series ended) what he is now today.
He may not be the grand winner, but he feels he also won.
Yet, he feels sad that his mother Adelina had passed on in February last year. He said he will pay tribute to his mother who he misses sadly in his concert in October.
Before we bade him goodbye, he signed a copy of his CD, “Please Tito, listen to it and don’t fail to come to my concert.”
A very nice boy, indeed. Yes, Ronnie I will listen to the songs on the CD and I will go to your concert.

Sen. Cynthia Villar was awarded an honorary doctorate by the country’s premiere school in agricultural studies during the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) 46th Commencement Exercises held at D.L. Umali Freedom Park, UPLB.
Villar, chairperson of the Senate Committees on Agriculture and Food and on Environment and Natural Resources, was recognized by the UP Board of Regents for her achievements in the fields of agricultural development, poverty alleviation, education and upholding the welfare of women and children.
Dr. Fernando Sanchez, Chancellor of UPLB, said Villar is being recognized “for her commitment to public service and dedication to the welfare of the Filipino people.”
In receiving the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, Villar said, “It is truly an honor and privilege that you all deem me worthy of this recognition.”
“Rest assured that as a public servant, I will continue to serve our fellow Filipinos and our country in the best of my abilities and capabilities,” Villar added.
Villar also announced her family’s donation of a professorial chair to UPLB College of Agriculture for small farm management.
The conferment of the honorary degree upon Villar was witnessed by her husband, former Senate President Manny Villar, and children— Paolo, Vista Land Chief Executive Officer; Mark, Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways; and Camille, All Home Store President.
Villar, when she was elected Representative of Las Pinas, was chairperson of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education and led the passage of 28 bills promoting high quality education.
