The Sunday before I flew to the US on Wednesday, MMI Live treated Manila Standard to Dinner in the Sky, a thrilling dining experience designed for the adventurous.
Just imagine you’d be dining high up in the sky 150 feet above the ground on a table suspended in the air for an hour.
We were with other guests, around 20, all strapped to the chairs around a table with the chef (that time it was the good-looking Chef Hylton Le Roux of Solaire’s Waterside) and his two assistants attending to the guests.
The lift off was nothing one should fear of…you hardly feel until the table reaches the peak and if the wind factor is strong, you’d feel it’s swinging, but if the wind is light, you’d think you’re on a ship cruising the ocean.
All in all, the experience is exactly an hour, from the lift off to the descent, and by that time the four-course dinner is over.
The Chef prepared for the guests that night a Latin-fused menu starting with Tuna Tiradito aji Amarillo paste, lime pickled red radish and cassava crunch. It was followed by Anticuchos de pollo (a chicken dish), tamarind habanera glaze, mojo verde, baby beetroot, and crispy concha corn.
Guests had a choice for their main course between Mexican Adobo spice Atlantic salmon, red quinoa, edmame, Hunancaina cream, and chili con salsa. Or Cuban style slow cooked pork belly, Mojo sauce, agave roast baby carrots and spice refried beans.

And then for dessert, we had dulce de leche cheesecake dome, praline, and chocolate texture that the guests had to plate, the winner of which was given a cocktail voucher to the Waterside. My plate was in the top three, but I didn’t win the cocktail voucher.
That Sunday night was also the last night of Chef Hylton, and this week Dinner in The Sky has another chef. And for the finale, a Michelin-starred chef will be flown in from Belgium, Chef Yves Matagne of Sea Grill in Brussels.
According to guys from MMI, the response to Dinner in the Sky was very encouraging. The concept has gone around 5,000 times in 45 cities.
The cost per head is P9,990 that comes with a four-course dinner, a view of Manila, but most of all the once-in-a lifetime experience of dining up in the sky.
Will I do it again? Why not? The food is good, the experience is fantastic. And it doesn’t happen very often. Not in the Philippines, at least.

Chicago’s modern-day heroes are back to save more lives in the latest season of the medical drama Chicago Med, which returns on Sony Channel this month.
In the season premiere, things turn complicated for the doctors and nurses of Chicago’s state-of-the-art trauma center as Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) prepares to testify against his shooter after he was shot outside of the hospital. Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) worries about Robin’s behavior at home after her release from a rehabilitation facility. Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) confront their feelings for each other once and for all.
Meanwhile, Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) and April (Yaya DaCosta) try to conceal their new relationship at work. Dr. Bekker (Norma Kuhling) gets off on the wrong foot with Dr. Rhodes when she poaches one of his patients.
Chicago Med Season 3 premieres on April 30, and airs 8:50 p.m. every Monday.

ABS-CBN’s online streaming and video-on-demand content platform, iWant TV, is releasing a new and original web series by award-winning director Pam Reyes titled #Adulting, a coming-of-age, light drama-comedy that follows four young Filipina women from different colleges who are about to leave the comforts of their university life for the first time.
Pam, the creative producer of the award-winning movie Birdshot, said “#Adulting explores the lives of millennials and explicitly shows the bitter, harsh, but fun reality of a young woman’s struggle in modern day Metro Manila while tapping on relevant issues.”
When asked about what she expects from the series, she said, “I’ve always wanted to create something that shows the lives of young women in the Philippines. It’s a unique perspective that I hope the audience will like. It’s cool to note that we shot this with a team that’s predominantly women. The four characters I co-wrote with Rae Red have different paths and issues. We both graduated from U.P. Diliman, hence most of the characters and situations are inspired by real life events.”
The main character, Aira, is a film graduate and aspires to be director but has to go through the ropes as a production assistant. It is through her character that the show throws inside jokes about the film industry. Lars, the ate of the group, comes from a long-term relationship and is struggling to choose between her dreams and her love life. Sab, the conyo quirky girl, is battling personal and mental issues while maintaining a seemingly positive life. Bulak, the Public Administration Ilongga graduate, is working her way to the work force but also working on her confusions about sexuality.
Adulting is a term used by millennials to show they’ve carried out duties and responsibilities expected of adults.
