Barbie and Derrick’s ‘Almost a Love Story’

A week after Easter Sunday, fans of Barbie Forteza and Derrick Monasterio, the current toast of the Kapuso network, will grace the big screen in a film shot partly in Italy.

The “DerBie” love team had already worked together in several teleseryes like Tween Hearts, Luna Blanca, and Half Sisters, which showcased the tandem’s unmistakable kilig factor. The love team will also be seen in a new soap titled Inday Will Always Love You on GMA 7.

Since they have been working together in a variety of soaps, it can’t be helped that they developed feelings for each other. Derrick courted Barbie, and he nearly got his “yes.” Derrick said he was five points away and some things didn’t work, so the romance was almost a love story, to borrow the title of their newest movie.

Barbie Forteza and Derrick Monasterio reunite in a film.

“We were almost there, just a few points to go and we have been a couple but maybe it was not meant to be. Siguro it might happen sometime in the future,” said Derrick.

Barbie recalled with fondness the time that Derrick courted her.

“I felt that he was really serious in courting me but we were still too young then. What is important now is we have become close to one another and I am really comfortable with him. Derrick and I are super close and if there’s a need for us to be sweet in a scene, we just do it. It is effortless on our part. There’s no need to act it out,” said Barbie.

Almost A Love Story was shot in December (sometime before Christmas) last year in Salento, Tricase in Southern Italy.

The production team behind Almost A Love Story made sure that the audience would feel the love and kilig, and would be touched as well by the story of Barbie and Derrick. It’s a plus factor that the beautiful place of Salento became the backdrop of the love story. BG Productions International’s Baby Go spent a fortune to make it a perfect movie for the two.

The movie tackles the theme of “long distance relationship” between childhood friends Baneng and Luigi had. It was Baneng’s OFW mom (played by Lotlot de Leon who was taking care of Luigi in Italy) who was instrumental in making love blossom between the two. In the story, both Baneng and Luigi have the inclination for the arts that also drew them together. Is there a fairy tale ending to the kilig-filled romance between Baneng and Luigi?

An offering from BG Productions International in cooperation with Salento Cinema of Italy and GMA-7 to be distributed by Regal Films Inc., Almost A Love Story will open in cinemas nationwide on April 11.

Written by Onay Sales and directed by the award-winning Louie Ignacio, it also stars, apart from Barbie, Derrick and Lotlot, Ana Capri as Derrick’s mom and Matet de Leon.

So, four million have viewed current YouTube sensation Ex-Battalion’s music video for the group’s astonishingly popular single “Hayaan Mo Sila.”

The popularity has prompted RS Francisco, actor entrepreneur and owner of Frontrow, a direct-selling company that also manufactures health products, to sign the group as the company’s newest ambassadors.

At the media presentation on Palm Sunday at the AiAi de las Alas-owned eatery called Ai Sarap Express near the ABS-CBN Broadcast Center, Francisco said he and the group’s manager, De las Alas, have big plans for them.

Francisco related how impressed he was when the group wrote the song he asked them to record at his recording studio. “In less than half an hour, they had written the song.” (Which he asked the technician to play for members of the media called “Follow The Lead” that Frontrow will use as the company’s anthem for now.)

He also said that for the music video of the song he plans to shoot in different cities around the world where Frontrow has a presence.

Lucky group this Ex-Battalion and similarly lucky this De las Alas as everyone seems interested to have a piece of this group. In fact, the comedian-turned-talent manager said she has plans for a big concert for Ex-Battalion in July.

Well, there’s a saying “make hay while the sun shines.” And for Ex-Battalion and De las Alas, carpe diem, for the heat and fire might turn to dying ember in a wink of an eye.

That week, the battle among the five tribes of Sansinukob began. After Dakil (Christian Vasquez) threatened to kill Lakas’ (Enrique) mother, Lila (Ana Abad Santos), the young warrior was left with no choice but to betray Ganda (Liza) and let the desert region conquer the farm region.

As all the chaos happened, the deity of Sansinukob, Apo (Diether Ocampo) and his brother Sarimaw (Ryan Eigenmann), watched over them.

Bagani airs weeknights after FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano on ABS-CBN or ABS-CBN HD (SkyCable ch 167).
