It’s confirmed.

Besides the much-awaited On The Job mini series, there will also be a new movie in August.

Director Erik Matti made the announcement at the second anniversary celebration of HOOQ recently.

“Yes, we are doing a new On The Job movie and it would accompany the upcoming mini series as well. The movie will be shown first followed by the series a few weeks after,” Matti told Manila Standard.

“It is the first time we will be doing a movie with a series component so it’s a big risk and a scary challenge,” he added.

HOOQ Team celebrates another milestone as it announces second installment of “On The Job” on its second anniversary

Matti said they are shooting the movie concurrently with the scenes for the initial episodes of the series.

The new OTJ movie furthers the theme of the 2013 original that deals with politics and corruption, but this time it will also involve the media, inspired by real events. The cast, announced last year, is led by Bela Padilla, Arjo Atayde, Christopher de Leon, Dominic Ochoa, Jake Macapagal, Smokey Manaloto, Ria Atayde, Levi Ignacio, and Renz Fernandez with Leo Martinez reprising his role as the evil General Pacheco.

“The movie will cross over. Let’s put it this way, the movie is complete. But there’s something there that will make you watch the series,” describes Jane Cruz-Walker HOOQ Philippines country manager.

OTJ is the first and biggest local production exclusively made for a video on demand service such as HOOQ.

“In the industry, we always talk about how we can uplift the quality of content. This is one platform where you can really have that opportunity because you can experiment, you can be daring, you can be bold. You are not limited (in exploring possibilities).” This is where Erik Matti’s On The Job (OTJ): The Series comes in as HOOQ’s first venture into producing original content, Walker notes.

HOOQ – the largest Video on Demand service in South-East Asia, has had a very productive start since it began two years ago, delivering the best of both Asian and Hollywood entertainment to homes across Asia.

HOOQ now has subscribers in the millions, all of whom can enjoy over 30,000 hours of quality entertainment, and this will be increased with new partnerships from Paramount Pictures, BBC Worldwide and Endemol Shine.

GMA Network recorded an unprecedented feat in Philippine broadcast history – winning no less than three Gold Medals in just one festival year alongside three finalist certificates at the 2017 New York Festivals “World’s Best TV and Films” Competition held in Las Vegas, U.S.A. on April 25.

Bringing honor to the country anew were multi-awarded GMA Public Affairs programs  – Reporter’s Notebook, Front Row, and Reel Time.

GMA-7’s investigative program Reporter’s Notebook bested other nominees in the Community Portraits category for its “Pasan-Pasang Pangarap” episode. The documentary, reported by Maki Pulido, showed how two brothers had to haul sacks of charcoal to save up money for schooling.

The documentary program Front Row, in turn, won a gold medal in the Human Concerns category. Its winning episode, “Bata sa Bintana,” featured the story of 13-year-old boy Zoren whose health conditions rendered him so weak that his contact with the outside world is only through their window.

Receiving the awards for GMA Network were (from left) Jayson Bernard Santos (EP, Reel Time), Joseph Conrad Rubio (EP, Front Row), John Eumer Yanga (Researcher, Front Row), Arlene Carnay (Senior AVP, Public Affairs), Izza Beatriz Bermudez (Researcher, Reporter’s Notebook), Ian Simbulan (EP, Reporter’s Notebook),  Maria Arilia Tolentino (Segment Producer, Reporter’s Notebook), and Clyde Rolando Mercado (Senior AVP, Public Affairs)

Meanwhile, GMA News TV’s Reel Time gave the country its third gold medal this year. The reality documentary program won in the National/International Affairs category for its “Maling Akala” episode. Aside from discussing the sensitive issue of extrajudicial killings, the documentary brought youngsters who believe that drug addicts should be killed face to face with former drug addicts who have succeeded in reforming their lives and are now community leaders.

The Kapuso Network also took home three finalist certificates in this year’s New York Festivals: Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho’s “Gintong Medalya” episode in the Community Portraits category; Entertainment TV’s Someone To Watch Over Me in the Telenovelas category; and GMA News TV’s Investigative Documentaries in the Community Portraits for its ‘‘PAAralan” episode.
