GMA Artist Center star Nar Cabico continues to push his way through the hearts of every Filipino through his emotionally raw and soulful music.

This generation’s champion for OPM
Singer-composer Nar Cabico finds comfort in writing songs and considers it as his personal contribution to help OPM thrive.

His original composition “GAGA” was recently hailed as Best Novelty Song in the 31st Awit Awards. The Kapuso star is also currently a finalist at the PhilPOP Top 30 with his entry entitled “LDR (Layong ‘Di Ramdam),” making him an inch away to popularizing his own brand of OPM.

Nar has always lived his passion for music—starting young and trying his luck abroad as a hotel lounge singer, occupying the streets for busking, and a lot more adrenaline-filled adventures that added to his motivation to keep telling stories through his songs.

After graduating in De La Salle College of Saint Benilde with a bachelor’s degree in Arts Management, Nar never faltered in believing in the power of music. He never put a stop at learning, and in fact, he recently joined the Elements Music Camp where he gathered with fellow young musicians, which he describes as “the magic of rediscovering one’s self through other people’s ears.”

“Elements Music Camp is one of those life experiences that when I look back 10 years from now, I’d realize how pivotal it was for me. So many creative portals have opened within me not only as an artist, but as a person. It has definitely shifted the way I see life, and the way I hear music,” Nar describes.

It was also humbling for him to be mentored by the one and only Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, “One of the many things I learned from Mr. C is to really dig deep into one’s own culture and history, so the artist will have a full understanding of why our music sound the way it does. Through that, it would be easier for the artist to expand their creativity.”

With different experiences and his acquired knowledge, these things allowed him to have a vivid formula that is unique for his brand of music. He wishes that more people could get to experience his music, rather than just listen to it.

His song for PhilPOP Top 30, “LDR (Layong ‘Di Ramdam),” is a song deeply rooted in his love for his beau who is currently living in the States. Through the lyrics that read, “Ngayong tayo’y magkalayo, pag-ibig ‘di magbabagoMaghihintay hanggang ang oras mo, ay oras ko,” Nar explains a love that never fails despite the distance.

Nar, a first timer in PhilPOP, is also the interpreter of his composition and he feels honored that he is able to show the color of the song through his own, soulful rendition.
