Following two successful seasons of Forever Sucks, D5STUDIO takes on an all new mystery-thriller series intended to send its online viewers all sorts of fright.
The Complex follows Alex, a male nurse who moves into an apartment complex and meets Anj, a beautiful but mysterious girl. Alex soon experiences strange happenings and vivid haunting dreams. He soon realizes that the hallways, corners and walls of The Complex conceal a secret begging to be revealed.
At the helm of this thriller, D5STUDIO tapped award-winning indie filmmaker Prime Cruz (Sleepless, Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23B).
In an exclusive interview, Cruz explains, “The Complex is a different type of mystery-thriller, hooked more on mood and ambience and not just on jump scares.”
In casting for the key roles, D5STUDIO turned to Albie Casiño to play the role of Alex, a 24-year old nurse who left his hometown of Tacloban City for a fresh start in Metro Manila.
Albie became a household name in 2015 following his stint in the popular teleserye, On the Wings of Love. No stranger to horror features, Albie already appeared in films like Aswang, Shake, Rattle & Roll Fourteen: The Invasion, and most recently, the blockbuster scarefest, Pwera Usog.
Veteran character actor Lou Veloso, whose recent performance in Erik Matti’s Seklusyon was lauded by critics, was cast as Mang Rene, the resident maintenance guy in The Complex and the one who has lived in the building the longest. As for the rest of the cast, D5 Studio held auditions for various key roles.
In casting the dark and cryptic Anj, the director suggested Emmanuelle Vera hailed for her performance in the indie romantic comedy-drama, Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa.
Indie actor, Boo Gabunada plays JR, a fellow tenant who moved into the complex two months before Alex. Whether or not Alex stays or leaves will depend on his relationship with JR. Boo is known for being part of the memorable ensemble cast of Joel Ferrer’s screwball comedy feature, Baka Siguro Yata.
And then there’s JR’s longtime girlfriend Pia who is fiercely protective of her man. Portrayed by Kate Alejandrino who has recently delivered memorable performances in acclaimed indie features like Bitukang Manok, Lila and most recently, the lesbian drama, Baka Bukas.
