Derek Ramsay back where he belongs

After months of speculations, top athlete and A-list actor Derek Ramsay has finally inked an exclusivecontract with GMA Network. Yes, the actor is officially back as a Kapuso.

Early this year, the 42-year-old actor teased his fans regarding his return to television. He said that he would be seen on the small screen again but he couldn’t divulge which station it’s going to be.

“They reached out to my folks and we had a great meeting…the way they approached me and my family, it was, again, with so much respect,” he told the media in a press conference held after the contract signing.

Derek admitted that he was already contemplating about slowing down in showbiz and pursuing a career in golf. However, his parents, Derek Ramsay, Sr. and Remedios ‘Medy’ Baggao-Ramsay, were all-out in their support of him becoming a Kapuso.

KAPUSO, OFFICIALLY. One-and-a-half decades since he left GMA 7, A-list actor Derek Ramsay is back on the Kapuso grounds after signing an exclusive contract with the network.
“I talked to my parents and they were the first ones to say that they like the people that we just met and they think I’m a perfect fit to be working with people like them,” Derek shared alluding to his parents’ encouragement to finally ink an exclusive contract with GMA.

In earlier interviews, the actor said that his plan for 2019 was already to focus to going pro in golf.

“I really wanted to give that a go but plans change. Another blessing was given to me. I’m really excited about what’s going to happen. I’m just thankful and happy for this opportunity that GMA has given me.”

Although it took them months to finally put the agreement in black and white, he said that returning to GMA has been one of the best decisions he made.

“After all the hard work, after all the movies and teleseryeshindi ko alam kung ano ang next chapter ng buhay ko and I’ve been doing a lot of charity work...all of these things are falling into place, GMA gave me the time to prepare my mind, my body,” Derek said.

Early in the 2000s, Derek found work as an MTV VJ, a model, as well as TV commercial actor. He started his career on TV as one of the co-hosts in the longest running noontime show Eat Bulaga from 2001 to 2004. He then transferred to ABS-CBN and became known for his supporting roles in television series including Isabella, Habang May Buhay, and Magkaribal
