Kim Chiu elated with first acting recognitionKim Chiu is very proud when she bagged the trophy for the Best Single Performance by An Actress category in the recently concluded 32nd PMPC (Philippine Movie Press Club) Star Awards for Television.

“Actually, it’s for my work in the drama show Ipaglaban Mo in which I appeared during its fourth-anniversary episode. The program also took home the Best Drama Anthology trophy so everyone in the production is happy.”

Interestingly, it’s the charming lass’ first-ever acting recognition for her work in the said ABS-CBN legal drama show.

“That’s why it’s very special to me. It’s the first time that I got honored by an award-giving body for Ipaglaban Mo. I didn’t expect that it will be this overwhelming. I can’t explain the feeling. All I know is I’m very happy.”

She further says that she’s grateful to the support of the production team especially that it’s her first time to do Ipaglaban Mo, and the episode she starred in coincided with the fourth anniversary of the program.

“My victory really means a lot. Definitely, it’s one unforgettable moment in my career!”

Actually, Kim didn’t expect to win that night.

“I was really surprised when my name was called. Earlier in the proceedings, I accepted the Hall of Fame award for ASAP. I was just puzzled why they didn’t allow me to go home yet. They told me there would still be a spiel or something. So, I stayed. In a little while, my name was already called as the winner. I was really clueless as to what was going to happen. As I’ve said, it was one unforgettable moment in my life.”

Apart from this award, the petite Kapamilya is also proud of her movie One Great Love under Regal Entertainment which is an official entry in the forthcoming Metro Manila Film Festival.

“That’s another development which adds happiness to my heart at present. We were selected as one of the main entries in the prestigious film festival which the public always look forward to every Christmas. Again, the feeling is simply overwhelming. Before the official announcement, I was very nervous and excited at the same time. It’s good that the movie made it to the list of official entries. I was very relieved upon hearing the announcement. It’s one good material from Regal Entertainment and is a perfect Christmas treat to the public. Hope they will support it,” avers Kim.

How does she find her co-workers in the upcoming big screen project?

“My leading man, Dennis Trillo is quiet but is a very deep and good actor. The same holds true with JC de Vera. Our director is no less than Eric Quizon who’s fun to work with,” she says.

Kim reveals that the film is a bit daring and has a mature theme. It’s about love among people my age who aren’t married yet. She adds that it’s simply relatable and avid movie buffs will surely enjoy it.

Expectedly, people would like to get updated about her romance with Xian Lim.

“Well, thank God it’s smooth-sailing at present. We’re happy,” ends Kim.

Asked about the general observation that she’s more of an actress as compared to her sister Anne Curtis, Jasmine Curtis-Smith says: “Honestly, I’m flattered with that since I know it’s one of my strengths. But in fairness to my sister, she possesses one thing which I don’t have: charm! She can reach out to the masses. That’s why she’s called Philippine Sweetheart.”

She adds that Anne got a strong magnetic appeal to the public, “That’s something you can’t study. It’s innate. Between the two of us, she’s the one like that. She already has lots of citations in her philanthropy and works as a public figure. I’m just happy that she has her own strengths and I have mine.”

At this point in their lives and career, what’s the best advice they’ve given each other?

“On my part, it’s more on the personal aspect like, she should take things slow… take a break if necessary, rest. I know that at present, that would be impossible because she’s seen daily in ‘It’s Showtime.’ But that’s my advice to her. She should learn how to pause and rest to recharge her batteries.

“As to her advice to me, she always tells me to take things easy all the time. Between the two of us, I’m the one who gets more tensed and anxious easily. That’s one thing which she mastered already in the business—keep cool no matter what. I’m still searching that in my system.”
