I am sad that Eddie Garcia remains in deep sleep. Let’s continue praying for his speedy recovery.

The actor, I learned, was working on a new series for GMA Network and met an accident during the rehearsal for a scene. Things would have been different if a medic and an ambulance were on a stand by on the set. That’s how things are in American, British and other European productions. Networks should not wait for things similar to Eddie Garcia’s accident to happen to do something. It’s the network’s responsibility to provide the best care for their actors, especially if those actors are already in their advanced age.

Another thing that networks don’t provide the actors are insurance, especially if the series is physically demanding.

That could have been solved if the director and producer agreed to use doubles instead in physically demanding scenes.

I hope this incident could challenge the networks’ to implement safety standards to avoid similar incidents on the set.

Someone called me the night after the Binibining Pilipinas crowned its recent winners in its annual pageant.

The caller said, “You should know that Bea Patricia “Patch” Magtanong was the no. 1 in overall judging, according to one judge who was wondering why Gazini Ganados became the Miss Universe Philippines and Patch was just given the Miss International title.”

I asked what happened?

The caller said, “ I heard that someone from BPCI interfered and said that Patch couldn’t win the Miss U title because she is a green card holder.”

REAL WINNER? Bea Patricia Magtanong who represented Bataan in this year's edition of Binibining Pilipinas with last year's Bb. Pilipinas International winner Ahtisa Manalo.

I said, “That’s ridiculous! Catriona Gray is a Filipino Australian and Pia Wurtzbach is German Filipino, and Patch is just a green card holder. She’s not even a citizen.”

Well, that was the excuse given to the judges who allegedly changed their choice to make the girl from Talisay win the Miss U Philippines title.

If this were true, BPCI has a lot of explaining to do.
