“More holes the better,” was how Matteo Guidicelli envisioned his carefree and wild set of jeans as he ventures into the world of fashion.
For him, a pair of ripped jeans never fails to deliver in complementing outfits at any time of the day. Since it is very wearable, it can easily transition to whatever style he wishes, and that’s how he truly fell in love with the rugged yet stylish look it creates.
Matteo shared that he likes going out wearing a simple pair of ripped jeans, a white shirt, and sneakers. He feels more comfortable when his lower outfit allows him to move freely without compromising his sense of style and his meticulous eye on fabric quality.
Matteo confessed that superstar Adam Levine is his inspiration when it comes to music and fashion. No wonder, he sometimes channels Adam when he performs on stage singing, another facet of his career, of course. He doesn’t deny that the Maroon 5 frontman also inspired him to design ripped jeans with “rock and roll, loose, and sexy” theme.
“But really, in the beginning, I wanted to be wild, like to have jeans with so many holes — butas na butas. Syempre Avel has been around for 20 years so he knows what people like so he kind of tamed the design so to speak,” Matteo shared in an interview.
He collaborated with Avel Bacudio because he wanted to come up with a design that only fashion field professional could execute. Although it took him a year, it was the perfect time to introduce his ripped, stretched, and lightweight jeans reinforced with Bacudio’s talented hands.
When Matteo asked him for this partnership, he was elated but challenged at the same time because the first was asking for jeans that are ripped, and not just ripped, he wanted them to have more holes for better airflow that will also allow the person wearing them to show off his toned legs.
He discussed how raw denim lasts longer and how washed ones are easy to work with because they are softer and can effortlessly turn into the signature look Matteo is known for.
It’s good to note that their line isn’t limited to men because Matteo is fond of girls wearing ripped jeans, too, Avel jokingly revealed. “I think it’s very sexy especially [for] women to have ripped jeans. The ripped jeans we constructed [for] the females contour someone’s bottom (and everything) and legs.”
Considering that Matteo is an all-around buddy, actor, entrepreneur, and triathlete, he felt fulfilled that he can do whatever he wants wearing his jeans.
“That’s why we were able to come up with designs that are exactly how I wanted them to be – sexy yet wearable at the same time. I’m very happy with how the jeans turned out. They’re very me,” Matteo excitedly shared.
Although the ripped jeans screams very Matteo, he proudly shares that their line also caters to people who like it plain and simple, yet stylish. “We also have non-ripped jeans and [we] also designed straight cuts that fit perfectly,” he said.
Just like his perfect pair of jeans, the launch of his jeans line was a perfect night for Matteo as well with his relatives, close friends, and girlfriend Sarah Geronimo showing their support.
Matteo stepping into the world of fashion isn’t just another business venture. It’s also an advocacy. Twenty percent of their sales will be donated to help the visually impaired children in Baguio.
