The excitement among Filipinos abroad in Canada were at fever pitch as GMA Pinoy TV and Glaiza de Castro made summer even hotter with back-to-back performances at events held in Toronto and Vancouver showcasing the Kapuso actress’ bold vocals and new music.
In Vancouver, fans were treated to Glaiza’s freshest hits at “Pinoy Fiesta: Unang Hirit sa Tag-Init” held at Memorial South Park on Aug.13.
It was a momentous affair for Glaiza, who, for the first time, did a live rendition of songs from her new album Magandang Simulain. At the close of the show, a select number of guests were fortunate enough to receive signed copies of Glaiza’s most recent musical masterpiece. They even had a chance to take photos with her.
Prior to the event, Glaiza’s supporters all over the world were able to chat with her in real-time via GMA Pinoy TV’s Facebook page. The live chat, which created buzz online, served as a platform for Glaiza to answer questions about her upcoming event and dedicate a special song to viewers. Asked what else Glaiza intends to do while in Canada, the Encantadia star expressed her desire to tour notable landmarks in the country after her commitments.
On Aug. 19, Glaiza’s wish was granted when a string of activities allowed her to see a popular destination in Toronto. She was able to climb the CN Tower, a communications and observation tower that is the third tallest of its kind in the world. While there, she spent time with Filipino press based in Canada at 360 The Restaurant, a revolving food establishment at the top of the tower. A meet-and-greet with more of her dedicated fans followed suit at Filipino restaurant Kalesa. She capped off her day with a fun-filled fan gathering made possible by iRemit, the largest Filipino-owned non-bank remittance service provider.
On Aug. 20, Glaiza performed during ANCOP Walk, in support of the event’s cause of raising funds for child education, community development, and humanitarian relief for third world countries. Later that day, she guest-starred for the “Women in Music” event. There, she donned yet again her singer hat and transformed Prestige by Night into an intimate paradise with a tender performance of her hits from her albums Synthesis and Magandang Simulain.
Of her Canadian sojourn, Glaiza says, “’Yung experience ko rito, parang nasa Pilipinas pa rin ako. ‘Yung warmth nang pag-welcome nila sa akin, parang hindi ako nalalayo sa Pilipinas.” Indeed, Glaiza’s presence resonated with her Kapuso Abroad in Canada, which she greatly felt during her brief but memorable stay in the country. “Ang sarap ng pakiramdam na makita yung smiles nila, na kumakanta sila kasama ko, at na sumasayaw sila. Kahit papaano nakapagbigay ako ng saya sa kanila. Thank you to GMA Pinoy TV for bringing Filipinos abroad closer to home.”
