Angelia Ong is Miss Philippines Earth 2015

Answering that she has nothing against same sex marriage, Angelia Gabrena Ong won over 37 other candidates from around the country the Miss Philippines Earth 2015 title on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. A graduating student in Marketing at College of St. Benilde, the 24-year-old was crowned by Jamie Herrell, Miss Earth 2014. Ong will compete in Miss Earth 2015 later this year.

Zsa Zsa Padilla asked her during the question-and answer portion of the pageant “if she believed in same sex marriage, why or why not?”

Ong answered, “I think, it really depends on the person if he or she believes in same sex marriage but for me, if the person feels that he or she needs to be married to show his or her love, then I don’t mind having same sex marriage. If you feel that that is love, then so be it,” Ong replied without batting an eyelash. Later she said she had no idea being asked the question and was expecting about the environment.

Ong isfrom Iloilo City and was third runner in Miss Manila 2014. She was also the ‘Face of Bb. Pilipinas’ or Miss Photogenic in 2011 at the time Shamcey Supsup won the Bb. Pilipinas-International title. She was widely tipped to win the 15th edition of Miss Philippines Earth pageant and won several special awards including Miss Hana Shampoo, Darling of the Press and Best in Resorts Wear.

Included in the Magic circle of 5 are Chanel Olive Thomas, Miss Philippines-Air; Catherine Joy Marin, Miss Philippines-Water; Carla Angela Valderrama, Miss Philippines-Fire; and Jona Sweett, Miss Phillippines-Eco Tourism. Thomas, former girlfriend of actor Jake Cuenca, also won the Best in Swimsuit and Miss Friendship awards. Marin won Miss SM Markets with Alyanna Mikaela Cagandahan the Miss Photogenic award, Maria Loraine Macay Grengia, Best in Eco-Video, and Paris Silva, Best in Cultural Attire, designed by Chico Estiva, which will be the national costume of Ong at the Miss Earth

Members of the board of jurors were National Artist Brass sculptor Michael Cacnio, Diamond Hotel manager George Reynoso III, President of Spouses of Heads of Mission Agnes Ventura Roscigno, German Ambassador to the Philippines Thomas Ossowski; Peerless Products VP Jasper Tiu; SM Hypermarket Senior VP Arnold Daluz, Tacloban ‘First Lady’ Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez and Carousel Productions Executive VP and Miss Earth founder Lorraine Schuck.
