IT STARTED in the 1950’s. Lotis Key and Jojie Felix Velarde were among those who held the title in the 1970’s.

The beauty pageant is back and 13 young women are vying for the title of Miss Aviation Philippines 2015.

Apart from beauty and personality, Miss Aviation pageant director Morena Carla Cabrera Quimpo said that the pageant is looking for an ambassador who can speak well about the aviation-tourism industry.

“Miss Aviation is expected to not only to be the face of the industry but also to play an active role in promoting our industry, tourism spots, and encourage the youth to join our ranks. So, she needs to be very knowledgeable and be able to send those messages well,” she said.

“We are very proud to present 13 young women chosen from different aviation and tourism sectors, from avionics technicians to flight cabin crew, to flight dispatchers, aeronautical engineers, and aviation students. These ladies will surely be future leaders in the industry, and young people can look to them for inspiration,” added Quimpo.

Supporting this advocacy is the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF), one of Asia’s longest-running sports aviation events, that gathers aviators from the local and international scene.

“We are happy to share the same vision with Miss Aviation Philippines 2015. It is no secret that the improvement of the aviation industry also brings about progress in many other sectors, especially tourism and the local economy, and we hope to deepen this awareness through the pageant,” shared Capt. Joy Roa, event director of the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

This year’s finalists for Miss Aviation Philippines 2015 are Blessilda Joy Lazaleta (B.S. Aircraft Maintenance Technology student of Flight School International), Cleo Margaret Brown (Aviation Electronic Technology student of Asian College of Aeronautics), Leihcel Galvez (airline receptionist), Christabelle Angeles (Cabin Crew student of Omni Aviation), Lyra Velchez (B.S. Tourism student of University of Perpetual Help), Mica Angela Angeles (Hotel and Casino Lobby ambassador), Kathlyn Almeda (B.S. The Miss Aviation Philippines 2015 Grand Coronation night will be held on Feb. 10, 7 p.m. at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Peninsula Manila, coinciding with the annual Aviators Ball, which honors outstanding aviators within the region.

The crowned winners will make their first public appearance at Weekend of Everything that Flies in Clark, Pampanga, from Feb. 12 to 15.
