AS THE holiday season ended, Miss Philippines beauties ended as runners up in four separate competitions abroad. Right on New Year’s Eve, Mutya ng Pilipinas Glennifer Perido was named second runner-up at the 2014 Miss Tourism International held at the Putrajaya International Convention Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with Miss Venezuela Faddya Halaba Troisi besting over 60 contestants from all over the world.

Perido, a 25-year-old, nurse from Kalinga, Cordillera, took the title Miss Tourism Metropolitan International and Miss Andaman Popular Award. Perido said she was proud and overjoyed to have given honor to the country following the back to back win of her predecessors Rizzini Gomez and Angeli Gomez in 2012 and 2013, respectively.  A three peat would have put the Philippines in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Miss Tourism Thailand Ploy Wutthayakorn was named Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International (1st runner-up); Miss Netherlands Charina Bartels was Miss Tourism Global (3rd runner-up) and Miss China Sun Weng Kong was Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan (4th runner-up).

A day earlier on Dec. 30, Ferina Juny-Ann Carpio nearly captured the Miss ASEAN 2014 crown finishing first Runner-up to Miss Thailand Melada Nantanurak in the finals held in A-Star Phulare Valley, Chang Rai, Thailand. Miss Vietnam Trinh Hong Que was second runner-up. Carpio, a Communication Arts graduate of Assumption College, was a former 26K model of ABS CBN’s Deal or No Deal and could have duplicated Jhezarie Javier’s win in 2005.

The Miss ASEAN pageant, which features two delegates from each of the eight ASEAN member-countries, is different from the Miss Southeast Asian contest which also crowned its 2nd winner Miss Vietnam Thu Vu on Dec. 13, with Miss Philippines Precious Nicolle Diloy as First Runner-up and Miss Thailand Praethara Charoenkullachoy as 2nd runner-up. Diloy, a 19-year-old Maragondon beauty, is Miss Cavite 2014.
