Gawad Kalinga constructs 20 new houses using RCBC Bankcard cardholders' contributions

RCBC Bankard recently broke ground in Gawad Kalinga’s Munting Paraiso site, marking the beginning of the bank’s latest project with the organization for the construction of 20 new houses for potential beneficiary-families in Cavite.
The bank’s partnership with Gawad Kalinga has grown in the last few years since the relaunch of RCBC Bankard’s Diamond Platinum Mastercard in 2016.
Cardholders who make use of RCBC Bankard’s Diamond Platinum Mastercard are given opportunities to help provide meals for starving and undernourished children across the country. For every P100 they spent using the card, cardholders were able to automatically donate P0.20 to Gawad Kalinga’s Kusina ng Kalinga (KNK).
Almost two years later, RCBC Bankard has taken its partnership with Gawad Kalinga a step further by sponsoring the construction of 20 houses in GK’s Munting Paraiso site.
“This endeavor began in April of 2018 when we went to Cavite with the task of choosing a site where 20 houses can be built for 20 deserving families,” said RCBC First Vice President and Marketing Group Head Angela Mirasol.
“We have specifically selected this site because of the enthusiasm and warmth that were displayed by the community during our first visit. Investing in Munting Paraiso will ultimately result not only to families being provided shelter, but also being included in a caring environment.”
The groundbreaking ceremony was well attended by RCBC Bankard and GK officials, as well as representatives from Cavite’s local government.
During the ceremony, RCBC Bankard also committed to sending 10 to 15 employee volunteers to assist in the construction and completion of the house-building project, as well as engaging in other community initiatives within Munting Paraiso.
The construction of the 20 new houses is expected to finish by December 2018.
“We at RCBC Bankard would like to acknowledge the loyalty and support of our RCBC Bankard Cardholders. It’s the regular use of their cards that supported this initiative. We hope for our cardholders continued patronage and we’d like them to know that, in their own way, they have become positive agents of change,” said Mirasol.
“Gawad Kalinga has always been our trusted partner. It is an organization that has been at the forefront of nation-building and poverty-alleviation efforts,” said. RCBC Bankard President and CEO Simon Calasanz.
“RCBC Bankard’s role, on the other hand, is to be a responsible corporate citizen actively involved in nation-building and humanitarian causes. By helping build thriving communities for less-privileged but deserving families, we enable them to become more productive and have dignified lives.
As we begin this exciting and fulfilling task of building homes, we would like to say to the families who will eventually be living here, ‘We really and truly believe in you. Without a doubt, you can make life better for you and your families.’”
