Typhoon threatens Philippines, PAGASA warns

A typhoon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is threatening to enter the country on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, the weather bureau said Monday.

“Wutip,” the typhoon, will be renamed “Betty” once it does enter the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

But the agency said the typhoon will be downgraded into a tropical storm once inside the country.

“Wutip” was estimated 1,740 kilometers east of Southern Luzon and it was moving slowly toward the Philippines.
