CSC clears way for Faeldon to take Bucor post –Justice department

Justice Menardo Guevarra said Tuesday the Civil Service Commission had already signed a recommendation to appoint Nicanor Faeldon as director general of the Bureau of Corrections.

“Civil Service Chair Alicia dela Rosa-Bala has informed me by phone this morning that she has signed a favorable recommendation for Nicanor Faeldon as Bureau of Corrections director general. Recommendation to be sent to the Palace,” Guevarra told reporters.

A clearance from the commission is required before Faeldon can assume his new position.

Guevarra made his statement even as Malacañang said Tuesday there was no official appointment letter yet for Faeldon to assume the position of director general of the Bureau of Corrections. Last week, the Justice department announced that President Rodrigo Duterte had chosen Faeldon to replace Ronald dela Rosa as head of BuCor.

“It takes time processing the appointment papers. That should come out soon,” Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said.

Earlier, Faeldon through his lawyer Jose Dino rejected the reports he was a “no-show” at BuCor saying there was no appointment to speak of yet.

Faeldon said he could not assume a post to which he was not appointed to and that even though Guevarra had made an announcement on his supposed appointment, Malacañang had not confirmed the news about his appointment.

But the Palace had already announced that Faeldon’s appointment was forthcoming.

Guevarra said Justice Assistant Secretary Melvin Ramon Buenafe, BuCor’s deputy director general for security and operation, had been appointed as OIC of BuCor while waiting for Faeldon to assume the post.

Duterte said a month ago that he wanted Faeldon to replace Dela Rosa as the new BuCor chief. Dela Rosa resigned from his post after he filed his certificate of candidacy for senator in the 2019 mid-term elections. With Vito Barcelo
