Pinay takes bronze for Philippines

Regalado tallied 444 points among six competitors in the women’s singles final at the Padepokan Pencak Silat Center in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.

Indonesia’s Puspa Arumsari submitted a total score of 467 points to win the gold medal, while Singapore’s Nurzuhairah Mohammad Yazid, the 2017 SEA Games champion, took the silver medal with a score of 445.

Laos’ Tunee Vilaysack scored 443 points to finish fourth followed by Thailand’s Salini Mamu (438) and Vietnam’s Thi Binh Vuong (434).

Arumasari is a gold medalist in the 2016 World Championships in Denpasar, Indonesia. She pocketed the bronze in the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Regalado’s medal is the third for the pencak silat team, which got its first two bronzes from Dines Dumaan (men’s Class B 50 kg to 55 kg) and Jefferson Rhey Loon (men’s Class D 60 kg to 65 kg) on Sunday.

As of Monday noon, the Philippines is No. 16 in the medal tally board with 14 medals, including three golds. 

Golfer Yuka Saso won the women’s singles while the women’s team of Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan, and Lois Kaye Go also won on Sunday.

The first gold came from 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, who won the women’s 53 kg event on Tuesday. 

The other bronze winners were golf’s Bianca Pagdanganan; cycling’s Daniel Patrick Caluag (BMX); ju-jitsu’s Margarita Ochoa (women’s -49 kg); taekwondo’s Pauline Louise Lopez (women’s -57 kg) and men’s and women’s poomsae teams; and wushu’s Agatha Chrystenzen Wong (women’s taijijian) and Divine Wally (women’s -52 kg).

China leads the medal tally board with 78 golds, 59 silvers and 38 bronzes. Japan is in in second place (40 golds, 34 silvers and 49 bronzes), South Korea ranks third (28 golds, 30 silvers, and 37 bronzes) and Iran is fourth (14 golds, 14 silvers and 12 bronzes).

Indonesia is fifth (13-13-25) followed by DPR Korea (11-5-7), Thailand (9-9-31), Chinese Taipei (8-12-14), India (7-10-19) and Uzbekistan (6-11-11).
