DESPITE his declaration of martial law in Mindanao, President Rodrigo Duterte continued to enjoy the trust and approval of most Filipinos in the latest Pulse Asia survey released Monday, which also showed the steady approval and trust ratings of the top government officials and key institutions.
Vice President Leni Robredo also welcomed her high majority approval on Monday.
“We are grateful for and humbled by the continued trust given us by our fellow Filipinos as shown by the higher ratings in the recent Pulse Asia survey,” Robredo said.
In Pulse Asia’s June 2017 survey conducted among 1,200 adult respondents, Duterte received an approval score of 82 percent and a trust rating of 81 percent.
The poll was taken a month after Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao following the clashes in Marawi City between the military and Muslim extremists.
His declaration was challenged before the Supreme Court but the high tribunal upheld its legality.
Meanwhile, Robredo maintained her 61 percent approval rating and 60-percent trust rating.
Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III’s approval ratings remained at 61 percent while his trust rating registered at 58 percent.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez had basically the same approval rating of 43 percent, a trust rating of 41 percent.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, meanwhile, gained a 48-percent approval rating while her trust rating was 43 percent.
The disapproval ratings of the country’s top officials varied, or from 5 percent for Duterte to 17 percent for Robredo. Ambivalence toward their performance was most marked toward House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez at 38 percent and least manifest in the case of Duterte at 13 percent.
Both Duterte and Pimentel obtained majority approval figures across all geographic areas (75 percent to 95 percent and 54 percent to 71 percent, respectively) and socio-economic classes (79 percent to 84 percent and 60 percent to 62 percent, respectively).
Robredo, meanwhile, had majority approval ratings in most geographic areas and socio-economic groupings (60 percent to 66 percent and 60 percent to 72 percent, respectively), with Metro Manila and Class ABC being the exceptions (both at 44 percent).
