Duterte fires back, tags EU hypocrites

CONTINUING with his profanity-laced attacks against the European Union, President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday tagged the 28-member regional bloc as “f—— s—” hypocrites for interfering with his bloody war on drugs.

“If they would ask you how I would describe them? Just tell them that the mayor has said you’re a f**** s***,” the President, who used to be mayor of Davao City, said.

“Do not impose your, whatever it is, your values and everything because we hate you for being a hypocrite. You are the incongruity of the times,” he added.

Duterte also attacked what he said was an EU suggestion—denied by the regional bloc—that it wanted him to put up “shabu clinics” similar to “supervised injection sites” in Europe where addicts could get their fix.

Duterte’s spokesman, Ernesto Abella had earlier dialed back on the President’s claim, saying only that an unnamed European country had made the suggestion.

The President on Thursday lambasted the EU and how its member-countries ran an imperialist campaign to conquer lands in other parts of the world.

“For after all, you are ahead of the industrialization age. Why? Because you conquered lands. You got the oil of the Arabs to build your industries way ahead than ours. Here in the Far East, you conquered Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines. Got the best of our lands, lived off with the fat of the lands, and you think now that you are the educated one and you should be listened to. And you come up with this morality.”

On Monday, the EU summoned the Philippines’ envoy to Brussels to explain the “unacceptable” comments of Duterte that he would be happy to hang European officials who were criticizing his anti-drug campaign.

Duterte had earlier blamed the mounting pressure against him coming from the European Union on arrested Senator Leila de Lima, whom European parliamentarians claimed was unjustly incarcerated as a “political prisoner.”

In a separate event, Duterte threatened to shame media men by revealing details of their personal lives, as he called out two media organizations, ABS-CBN and the Philippine Daily Inquirer for what he said was unfair coverage.

“Sumusobra kasi ang media, e. Binababoy na nila. So kung ganoon, I have a government station here, PTV 4. Puputakin ko kayo araw-araw, at istoryahin ko ang buhay ng anak ninyo,” the President said in a speech before Filipina entrepreneurs in Malacañang

“Eh di ako kuha ako ng programa araw-araw dito sa PTV 4 bastusin ko rin kayo, ganoon nalang. Kapag sinabi mong editoryal mo p****** i** sabihin ko p****** i** mo rin para tabla-tabla tayo. Titingnan natin.”

[“The media are going too far. They have made it ugly. If that’s the case, I have a government station here, PTV 4. I can attack them every day, and make a story about the lives of their children. I can get a probram here every day on PTV 4 and do the same to you. If you say p——– in your editorial, I’ll say the same to you, so we’re even.”]

Duterte accused the Philippine Daily Inquirer of misreporting his remarks that only the poor were killed in his drug war.

“It is an apparatus which I have to destroy both because look at the Inquirer. They’re saying that I am only killing the poor. You know, the Inquirer is b*** s***, they’re already rubbish even during the elections. The poor will be killed. Look at their slant.”

“Someday they will get their karma,” he warned.

He also lambasted TV giant ABS-CBN for allegedly maligning him during the elections.

Also on Thursday, former Social Welfare secretary Corazon Soliman filed a complaint against Assistant Secretary Lorraine Badoy over the latter’s “child porn” remark about the European Union.

She accused Badoy of violating the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

Under Section 4 or the Norms of Conduct of Public Officials and Employees, “public officials and employees shall perform and discharge their duties with the highest degree of excellence, professionalism, intelligence and skill.”

She said the law does not allow any public official to say whatever they would want to say publicly.

She said Badoy was not just representing herself but the institution she belonged to.

She said the DSWD official committed an injustice to children when she told the European Union to engage in child porn “even as a joke.”

Amid Duterte’s attack on the EU, the regional bloc has commited €6.1 million in trade assistance to the Philippines.

EU Ambassador Franz Jessen said the institution has already invested €6.1 million for the fourth phase of a program that will help the Philippines increase its access to international markets and facilitate cross-border movement of goods.

“We are committed to support the strengthening of Philippines’ integration into the world economy, and to contribute to the country’s inclusive growth goals,” Jessen said in his statement after the completion of the trade program’s third phase.
