A son and namesake of Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed along the national highway in Bacarra town Sunday.
Senior Insp. Jeffrey Taccad, Bacarra police chief, said Rodolfo Fariñas Jr., 20, was killed after his BMW bike hit a concrete barrier at 5:30 a.m.
Witnesses said the victim tried to avoid a truck on the highway but lost control of his motorbike, which burst into flames after hitting the barrier.
One witness said Fariñas was traveling at more than 100 kph when the accident occurred.
Fariñas, a son of the late former actress Maria Teresa Carlson, was brought to the Laoag City Provincial Hospital, where was declared dead on arrival.
Fariñas was traveling to Laoag City after attending a birthday party when the accident occurred.
CCTV footage showed at least three dump trucks going in the direction of Bangui, Ilocos Norte at the time of the accident.
“We are still verifying the license plates of the dump trucks which could have been involved in the accident,” Taccad said.
Fariñas was a former president of the Sangguniang Kabataan of Ilocos Norte.
