P8 M for Ifugao projects released

BAGUIO CITY, Benguet—The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has released P8 million to Ifugao for construction of two road projects that will benefit 6,000 people in four barangays in one of the poorest provinces in the country, officials said.

John Castaneda, DILG regional director for the Cordillera Administrative Region, said the money was intended to build 4.4 kms of road, which was expected to improve the economic prospects of the affected barangays.

“Once these barangays will be accessible, there would be less enclaves for lawless elements in the area,” said Ifugao Governor Dennis Habawel.

The P8 million was part of the P133.8 million worth of “peace and development projects” released by the DILG to the various communities in the Cordillera region this year. The projects were called Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan or PAMANA.

A total of P211.8 million has been allocated for the six provinces in the Cordillera region for 13 PAMANA development projects. In addition to Ifugao, the five other project are located in the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga and Mt. Province.

PAMANA projects are implemented in affected by insurgency “to strengthen peace building, reconstruction and development in the conflict areas.”
