Police operative shot and killed a suspect in a buy-bust operation, and seized four kilos of shabu worth P27.2 million in a gun and ammunition store in Quezon City.

Sr. Supt. Ronnie Montejo, Quezon City Police District chief, said National Capital Region Police Office and Cubao’s Station 7 drug enforcement unit, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted a joint operation against one Edgardo Labay Alfonso, 50, of Pasig City, in front of a gasoline station along P. Tuazon Avenue and 18th Avenue in Barangay San Roque on Sunday at 5:15 a.m.

He said the suspect was among the target of an intensive anti-illegal drug operation under NCRPO Case Operational Plan.

Alfonso is believed to be a member of a syndicated criminal gang operating illegal drug trade in Metro Manila, he added.

Sensing a drug sting, suspect Alfonso shot the poseur-buyer and ran from 18th Avenue toward Del Pilar Street. He was cornered but instead of surrendering, he continued firing at the operatives, “who had no option but to fire back that caused his death.”

“Continuous followup is being undertaken by NCRPO, Regional Drug Enforcement Unit for possible arrest of the main target and suppliers of the said illegal drugs,” Montejo said in a statement .
