Newly-elected Antique Rep. Loren Legarda yesterday said that she won her case on the residency issue in election registration board in Pandan Municipal Trial Court in the said province.

The outgoing senator said she even won in the Comelec and in the provincial Comelec on the night of her proclamation.

“I won the elections by a huge mandate of 199,187 while all the opponents put together could not even reach half of my votes,” said Legarda.

“My landslide lead is over 130,000,”  added Legarda, who served as a senator for 15 years.

She said the nullification case filed against her by former Antique Gov. Exequiel Javier whom she defeated in the last congressional race in the province during midterm elections last May was dismissed many times.

“Grateful that I am loved by many,” further stated Legarda who expressed her gratitude for all the blessings, including winning in the last elections.

Citing Legarda’s failure to satisfy the residency requirement, Javier filed a petition for revocation and nullification of Legarda’s proclamation.

In a six-page petition filed on May 16, Javier asked the Commission on Elections en banc to set aside the May 14 proclamation of Legarda by the provincial board of canvassers and stop her from taking her oath of office.

“It must be noted that the petitioner has filed a petition to deny due course and/or cancel the certificate of candidacy of the respondent for member [of the] House of Representatives, and the same has not yet been resolved with finality by the honorable commission,” said Javier.
