Various independent surveys showed reelectionist Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay is leading consistently by a wide margin against her rivals, including her brother, former mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr., in the city’s mayoralty race.

In the latest non-commissioned survey conducted by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD Inc.) from May 4 to 8, Mayor Binay garnered 60 percentage points while her brother Junjun got 37 percentage points.

In an earlier survey of the said firm conducted from April 1 to 8, the mayor got a 67-percent voter preference rating, nearly double the 36 percent earned by her brother.

Mayor Binay again dominated the mayoral race in a recent survey commissioned by a business group from April 5 to 8, in which she scored 68 percent to Junjun’s 26 percent.

An earlier survey commissioned by a private company, conducted from March 29 to 31, showed Abigail with 68 percent of the votes, and Junjun with 22 percent. At the district level, the mayor got 56 percent in District 1 and 77 percent in District 2, while her brother got 36 percent in District 1 and 11 percent in District 2.

Another survey done by Pulse Asia in November last year showed that if the elections were held then, Mayor Abby would win handily with a decisive 71 percent of the vote, compared to 22 percent for Junjun.

In the said survey, incumbent Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo, running mate of Mayor Abby, got 81 percent of respondents’ votes, while her opponent and Junjun’s running mate, Monsour del Rosario, got a mere 10 percent.

The results of a non-commissioned survey by Publicus Asia last November showed 67 percent of respondents will vote for Mayor Abby, while only 20 percent said they will cast their votes for Junjun.

In an earlier poll done last August 17 to 23, Pulse Asia proposed three scenarios for registered voters, all of which projected landslide victories for the incumbent mayor.

Mayor Binay got 69 percent of the votes in a one-on-one scenario with Junjun, while she got 67 percent in a three-way match with her brother and Ricky Yabut. In the third scenario with her going up against Junjun and Romulo Peña Jr., the incumbent mayor got 65 percent.

Moreover, the Pulse Asia survey in August also found that Mayor Binay’s public support is echoed across all socio-economic classes.

The same survey also showed former Vice President Jejomar Binay with a 66-percent voter preference rating in his bid as congressman of Makati’s first district. His opponent, Romulo Peña Jr., received 30 percent.

The strong lead consistently enjoyed by Mayor Abby in all pre-election surveys has been reinforced by the endorsement of the block-voting Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) of her candidacy, along with majority of her Team Performance slate.

The INC has also endorsed her father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, as Congressman in the first district, and re-electionists Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo and Congressman Luis Campos of the second district.

Also endorsed were six candidates for Councilor in each district.

Meanwhile, several organized groups representing various sectors in Makati have come forward and endorsed Mayor Binay and her entire Team Performance slate, declaring their full support in the upcoming elections.
