A congressional aspirant has welcomed the decision by the First Division of the Commission on Elections to declare a challenger to his post as a “nuisance candidate” and to cancel the latter’s certificate of candidacy.

Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Roberto Uy was referring to a resolution penned by Comelec Commissioner Al Parreno, the First Division ruled that the candidacy of Uy’s namesake—‚a certain “Roberto Escobido Uy”—“would cause damage and prejudice not only to Governor Uy but to the Filipino electorate.”

Uy is running against incumbent Zamboanga del Norte first district Rep. Seth Jalosjos.

“To put into the mix candidates without serious intention or capabilities to run a campaign would actually impair the electoral process,” the poll body said.

“This is not to mention candidacies which are palpably ridiculous so as to constitute a joke,” it added.

Uy had earlier filed a petition before the poll body for the junking of the certificate of candidacy of the respondent Uy.
